Space Derby
In October, rocket kits are passed out, beginning the process of sanding, shaping, and decorating to form the fastest rocket for the October Pack Meeting's Space Derby. The boys take turns, racing against each other, four at a time, to find the champions.
Pinewood Derby
Each January, each boy of Pack 1831 receives his car kit, which includes a block of wood, four axles (nails) and four tires. We have a Pack Pinewood Derby clinic early in the month to assist scouts in pattern selection and in cutting out the basic shape of their car. The scout is then charged with turning his kit into a finished car ready to be raced at the Pinewood Derby at the end of January. There is also a District level Pinewood Derby held in February which is open to any boy who chooses to register his car.
Rainwater Regatta
In June we hold our Rainwater Regatta. We meet at Sudley Elementary and then hike the short distance to the Bull Run Creek for our Regatta. The boys are issued their boats creek-side and then are given a brief time to assemble and ready their boats. Scouts and their siblings then wade into the creek to take turns racing their boats to the finish line to find the champions.
