Why we promote community service
Simply put, we do our best to help others through service because that is what a Cub Scout does, and it is in our Promise, "I promise to do my best, to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people, and to obey the Law of the Pack."
Teaching boys to serve the community also helps instill most of Cub Scoutings Core Values: Citizenship, Compassion, Cooperation, Courage, Faith, Health & Fitness, Honesty, Perseverance, Positive Attitude, Resourcefulness, Respect, and Responsibility. These are values that we hope our Cub Scouts will carry with them throughout their lives to serve each community where they live.
How we serve the community
Pack 1831 serves the community several ways.
We participate in the annual Scouting for Food program. During this program scouts distribute food collection bags throughout the local neighborhood. The following weekend the scouts return to the homes they visited the previous week to collect food donations for needy families in our area.
Our Cub Scouts have also worked on projects to clean steams and trails throughout our area.
In addition to these Pack community service projects, Dens also practice community service as part of their programs, and individual scouts can serve the community as well.
